The Medical Assistant Program at Ruby’s Academy for Health Occupations will help to prepare you for a stimulating career in the allied health industry. The objective of the Medical Assistant Program is to integrate students into entry-level positions assisting physicians and nurses by performing administrative and clinical tasks in healthcare facilities. The Medical Assistant Program instructs students through the use of didactic theory, hands-on-learning, and externship within a healthcare setting for on the job training.
Beyond the Classroom:
A Medical Externship places students in medical, office settings where they can obtain valuable, real world experience before their job search even begins. Employment opportunities for medical assistants include physicians’ offices, public and private hospitals, ambulatory healthcare services, state and local agencies and more.

760 hours/ approx. 10 months- full time
M- Th 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
- Be at least 17 years and 11 months of age
- Parental or Guardian consent if student is less than 18 years old
- High School Diploma or GED
- Complete an application and submit the required NON-REFUNDABLE application fee of $150.00

Employment of Medical Assistants is projected to grow 23% from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. There has been an increase in the demand for preventative medical services, which are often provided by physicians. As their practices expand, physicians will hire more medical assistants to perform routine administrative and clinical duties.

MAA 102 – Psychology and Patient Relations (20 hours lab) – 80
MAA 103 – Medical Office Management, Law and Ethics (40 hours lab) – 80
MAA 104 – Anatomy and Physiology (20 hours lab) – 80

A diploma is issued at the successful completion of the program in accordance with state guidelines. Graduates are also awarded certification in Phlebotomy, EKG, and CPR.
Graduates are encouraged to take the Certified Medical Assistant National Examination. The American Medical Certification Association will issue a certification to those who pass the examination.
